Course Description
The key clients for this course are existing construction and other relevant industry workers and potential new entrants. These groups may include:
- Existing self-erecting crane operators;
- Existing Tower Crane and crane operators;
- Existing Doggers/Riggers;
- People in the building / construction industry wanting to become licensed self-erecting crane operators.
Course Location
SCTA has its own Self-erecting Tower Crane (Potain 14C) set up at its training facilities at Glenview, located next to the BP Service Station on the Glasshouse Mountains Road (now also referred to as the Steve Irwin Way). All training and assessment is conducted at this facility, however, courses can be conducted at the client's premises provided the training facilities and the available crane are suitable.
Please note that it is a requirement for students to produce 40 hours of signed log book (on-the-job) training as a Self-Erecting Tower Crane (SETC) operator. Log book to be signed by a Licenced SETC operator.
Alternatively a letter from your employer and proof of employment may be provided, with the employer stating that you have completed 40 hours of (on-the-job) training as a SETC operator.
Course Duration
This course consists of 1 unit of competency. The nominal duration for the unit of competency is 80 nominal hours (supervised training and assessment only – 72-76 hours supervised training, 4-8 hours supervised assessment). In addition the learner is required to undertake supervised on-the-job training of 40 nominal hours.
Students are required to complete a written and practical examination and must answer all questions correctly to be deemed competent to receive their Statement of Attainment and CS Licence.
RPL (Recognised Prior Learning)
The training hours may be significantly reduced depending on the participant's qualifications (Tower Crane, Crane, Dogging and Rigging Licences).
Course Requirements
- Students are required to be 18 years or over;
- Students are to wear closed in shoes (steel caps);
- Students must have a basic understanding of mathematics to work out formula.
Students must bring:
- log book (40 hours on-the-job training, signed by a Licenced SECT operator);
- a calculator;
- hard hat;
- safety vest and equipment;
- Drivers Licence (photo identification is required).
