As from the 1st February 2012 Traffic Control will change over to RIIOHS205A Control Traffic with a Stop Slow Bat. The new course is a full 8 hour day training and participants are required complete an additional 20 hours on the site under the supervision by a Licenced Traffic Controller. Participants will still be required to complete an approved traffic controller course delivered by an RTO, must have held a licence for a continuous period of 12months in the last 5 years, pass the medical suitability requirements and criminal history check before loging their application with TMR. More information on this process is avaliable on the TMR website.
LOADSHIFTING CHANGES
As from the 1st January 2012, loadshifting (excluding forklift) is no longer considered High Risk under the new Work Health & Safety Bill 2011. This means that operators are no longer required to hold a licence issued by WHSQ for these machines. This does not however mean that anyone is able to operate an item of plant. Worksafe Qld states "From 1 January 2012 it is the duty of a person conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU) to ensure competency of the operator when the plant is operated, so far as is reasonably practicable" Evidence of appropritae training and instruction for the type of plant to be operated could be:
* A statement of attainment or other nationally recognised qualification
* Training completed at an industry training school
* On-the-job training conducted by an experienced competent person
* Current relevant experience
